What's New With Clark?
Updated 1/4/2009
Health
It's been over three and a half years since the accident and yet God's miracle of healing continues in Clark's life. There are no serious long-term effects of the wreck at this point. He still has some trouble with double vision, which will be corrected by surgery sometime in the spring of '09. Outside of that challenge, the only things he battles with are short-term memory and a slight weakness on his right side. Clark has continued his rehab faithfully by working out three times a week at the YMCA. As you can see from the picture at the right, he's getting pretty buff! In 2008 Clark had to endure braces for the third time. That made eating and speaking very, very difficult. But now those braces are off and he has a temporary retainer. So we are beginning to accept speaking engagements again for the spring of 2009.
School
Near the 4th anniversary of the accident, Clark will be graduating from Ashland Community and Technical College with his Associate Degree!! It's been atough transition but Clark has managed to earn a degree in Information Technology with an emphasis on Networking. He has maintained nearly a 3.5 GPA and was inducted last year into the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society. All of this has been experienced in "2-D" with his double vision problems but we've heard no complaints from him along the way (well, maybe a little complaining while taking Applied Physics).
Clark's plans at this point are to take his Cisco and Microsoft certification exams over the summer and then to enroll in the online Bachelor's Degree program at Western Kentucky University. Western has a special arrangement with the Kentucky Community Colleges that should allow him to do almost all of his work from home at his own pace. That will be such a blessing because it puts more emphasis on him learning the material instead of simply memorizing information for testing. Since short-term memory is still effected by the accident, taking tests has been the toughest part of doing work on a college level.
Other Stuff
One of the exciting things in Clark's life has been the launch of LifeSong Church, here in Ashland (check it out at www.lifesonglife.com ). He's been involved since the very beginning in 2006 through playing percussion in the band and working with the high school and junior high youth. With school getting a little tougher, he has taken a break from the band but loves being involved in lots of other ways. Keith began working for King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland as a Media Specialist, as well as continuing to lead as the Pastor of LifeSong. It has provided the family with better medical benefits and also gives Keith lots of opportunities to meet new people who are looking for a church to call home. Debbie began working for a local cardiology group this year through Bellefonte Hospital. So far she loves the change of pace that working in an office environment has provided. The Menshouse House continues to experience the blessings and miracles of God and we can never thank him enough!!
